..exerpts about Charles Loloma written with permission from Hopi Silver by Margaret Nickelson Wright...

"Charles Loloma was a noted craftsman from Hotevilla who worked in ceramics as well as silver. While living at Shungopavi in 1950, he became interested in silverwork. At first he did only cast work, but later in his workshop in Hotevilla he employed many different techniques in both silver and gold. One jewelry technique carried from prehistoric times to the present that he used was turquoise mosaic. Examples of this type of work, inlaid on shell, wood, and even basketry, have been excavated in early archaeological sites and the Hopi continued to use it during historic times. In 1972, Loloma incorporated mosaic into his jewelry."

Charles was a member of the Badger Clan and passed away in 1991.
